Take one grand Botanical garden, dim the lights, add a generous dash of Shakespearean drama and stir gently for 25 years of magical performances…That’s the enticing recipe for this Summer’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ performance by the Australian Shakespeare Company!
Having pioneered popular outdoor theatre and enthralled audiences across the country with his brilliant adaptions of Shakespeare’s works, Director Glenn Elston is returning full circle with a fresh interpretation of the play that started it all in 1988. “You might think I’d be sick of it by now, but it has been truly amazing to spend over two decades of summers in Melbourne’s gardens making theatre with such an array of talented artists” says Elston.
“I won’t say it hasn’t been trying at times, performing in Melbourne’s weather, up against wind, rain and fire, but we have always pulled through. What makes it so fulfilling is to hear how our productions have become such treasured summer memories for our audiences and all those involved.”
So take some of Shakespeare’s advice one evening soon, fan the moonbeams from your sleepy eyes, and let those forest fairies free to roam in your imagination!
This years Australian Shakespeare Company Season runs from 21 December – 15 March, tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster.
