Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema

A balmy Melbourne summer night approaches. Not a black cloud in the sky to suggest rain. The social calendar is cleared and with tonight’s work tasks shuffled to the top of tomorrow’s task list, you energetically travel to a park, beach or rooftop. The screen is set. The extra blanket and picnic rug are acquired as you make yourself comfortable; celebrating the end of a hard day with a drink and nibbles to share. The sunset transcends into night and a motion picture appears.

That’s right summer movie lovers. With summer only days away, Melbourne once again plays host to a number of open air cinemas. This includes Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema. More than just an openair cinema, Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema is once again proudly offering music by day and movies by night at St Kilda’s South Beach Reserve.

From November 30 until December 21, the Sunday session – also known as Ben & Jerry’s Sundae Sessions – will allow attendees to see a number of live acts, partake in fun activities and enjoy free samples of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

The selection of music at this year’s Ben & Jerry’s Sundae Sessions, includes the best of Melbourne’s up-in-coming artists. The opening night (30th of November) include local act Husky. Having previously toured with Gotye and Mumford & Sons, the trio is back in Melbourne to perform tracks from their forthcoming second album – Rucker’s Hill.

This will follow with the screening of the latest British movie, Pride. A historical comedy/drama set in 1984 that tells the story of a group of lesbian and gay activists raising money to help families affected by the British miners’ strike.

The films at this years’ Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema will be shown on a 2K HD digital cinema system and projected on a massive 12m x 6m screen. Sound is provided by Klipsch Audio Technologies; making this outdoor cinema experience like no other.

Deckchairs, bean loungers and blankets can be hired as part of the ticket packages. There will also be a fully licensed bar and Ladro offering tasty salads and yummy wood-fire pizzas. And let’s not forget, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will be available to cool off with their legen-dairy flavours. Enjoy all the best parts of Sunday at Ben & Jerry’s Sundae Sessions.
