The middle of this week saw the official launch of a bar. Not just any old bar, but one with a defining vision. Introducing, the latest bar to hit the streets of Fitzroy – Glamorama. Possibly the best named bar for 2015, Glamorama is all about the night, and a better alternative to when the feeling of ‘I’m not quite ready to go home’ sets in at an early hour of the morning. Say good bye to sketchy watering holes and hello to wonder.
Glamorama is flexible in its offerings, but only at the hours of night. Doors open at 5pm and close at 5am the next day (Friday and Saturday only, all other days the bar closes at 3am) and offers a strong bar of sourcing some local favourites that include Four Pillar gin and Starward whiskey and other great drops of liquor, wine and beer. The kitchen is also in full swing with mains available till 11pm, or if bar nibbles are more your style, you can nibble away until 3am.
At first instance the space looks a little unassuming with a lot of black dominating the first floor. Yet, it’s only when you get to explore the space and discover the nooks, booths and other hang-out points that you come to appreciate the space. For starters, the long bar is gorgeous with its bright red neon lights highlighting the industrial themed touches. The tall ceiling creates this openness of a drinking hall but applying the right acoustics; allowing for the nooks and booths spaces for more intimate occasions. The decor is a little off with naked mannequins in one corner, but that can be over looked with the sensational graffiti installations that adds character and a necessary edge. Best of all, with the installation of their Funktion-One surround sound system, you know sweet tunes will be playing all night and until the sun appears from the immediate horizon.
With no real time restrictions as when to eat or drink, Glamorama is the latest night playground for budding patrons of Brunswick Street.
