Something terrible has happened. There’s been an explosion. A cryptic, distorted phone message tells you that the mine needs to be evacuated. Now all you have to do is figure out how…
And so begins the Mine Escape room, the latest attraction from the makers of Melbourne’s original Escape Room. There have been a lot of these popping up in the last 12 months, but what sets this room apart from the ever-growing pack of other escape room style games is the astounding attention to detail. The room itself is beautifully populated with realistic mining equipment, maps, photos and props, all of which play important roles within the game. The puzzles themselves are also surprisingly varied, there are some conventional number puzzles, but you will also be collecting objects, using light and sound, and interacting with all manner or props and objects in order to solve the many puzzles presented to you. Other escape rooms should take note, THIS is how you create interesting, varied and interactive puzzles.
If I had a complaint, it would be that our group was provided hints a little too readily. I would have liked a tiny bit more time to figure out the puzzles on our own, but this was likely due to our group beginning in the room so late in the evening and the hints never gave too much away.
At the end of the day, if you are in any way interested in escape rooms, love puzzles, or just like being immersed in new and exciting places, give Mine Escape a go. You most definitely will not be disappointed!
