On a warm Thursday afternoon, Taste of Melbourne had officially opened its doors to the public. From the busting sounds of the Munich Brauhaus tent to the lovely food smells coming from various food vendors, Taste of Melbourne picks up where it had left off last year.
The opening gala celebrated the successful opening of another year at Albert Park and awarding the best dishes as decided from its selected tasting panel. After much deliberation from the judges and plenty of cheeky tasting, the winners were as follow:
- Third place: Uncle with one of their most popular dishes Crispy Pig Ears Mi with pickles & peanuts (8 crowns)
- Second place: B’Stilla with their BBQ Octopus, Tahini Ramoulade and Herbs. Twice cooked octopus, tahini & casper sauce, lemon (12 crown)
- First place and winner: Pope Joan with their dessert dish Mr Wilkie, smoked yogurt soft serve ice cream with freeze dried raspberries and a pistachios (6 crowns)
The restaurant with the best looking tent (otherwise known as Best Dress) was awarded to Brooks Restaurant and Bar. The dangling broccoli in the corner of the tent had seal the deal with the judging panel.
Be sure to taste these dishes before Taste of Melbourne departs once again. Taste of Melbourne will be running this Saturday and Sunday, so get your taste buds primed to experience and celebrate the best of Melbourne’s food scene.
