Italian restaurant Tutto Benne has recently launched their summer menu – and it’s a ripper. Think elderflower spritzer cocktails, monk inspired Frangelico mules, and fancy bites over the Southgate precinct terrazza overlooking the Yarra. Is there a better way to enjoy alfresco dining?
Here at The Modern Con, we sampled the grazing snacks menu to give you peace of mind… and here’s what we thought of it:
The Mezzaluna – beetroot and heirloom carrot mazzaluna pasta, smashed hazelnuts, sorrel pickle celery root is a little snack that packed a mouthful of flavour! It was bold but did not linger too long on palate. A great way to kick off the menu. The Crostini con melanzana – confit eggplant, whipped buffalo crumble, pomegranate and black truffle was a gorgeously presented dish that followed through with the goods. The crostini was crisp and fresh, crunching upon first bite and held its composition with all the toppings. The confit eggplant was beautifully made and the pomegranate added a classy touch. One of my favourite items to graze on.
If you’re into crispy, dense foods for grazing, then the Cotoletta – mini wallaby cotoletta with pistachio has you sorted. Looking a bit more like crumbed chicken, this was an interesting way to eat wallaby. The crumbing was delicious, especially once a little bit of lemon was squeezed on top. Fiori Di Zucca – Bacala and farro zucchini flower, fresh lemon delivered an unusual little dish. The zucchini flowers were cooked in some sort of tempura and the Bacala (dry salted cod) and farro (a type of grain) were blended into a type of paste and stuffed inside the flower. It was not salty but just generally usual.
The Panzarotti – panzarotti filled with truffled ricotta, cinnamon salt was truly something a little bit different and a recommended finisher (excluding the gelato!). The panzarotti was beautifully crisp and fresh, and the hint of cinnamon salt really gave this dish a unique angle. It was sweet and the ricotta just melts in your mouth.
Finally, if your not fully satisfied by the end of your grazing, Tutto Benne have their own gelateria. Yes! You heard right! Just because Christmas is over, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a bit of pavlova, gingerbread, trifle or Lamington. YUM!
