Valentines Day holiday inspiration

With Valentine’s Day almost upon us, a precious opportunity to trade annual leave days for romance presents itself. After turning the calendar over for February, I’m sure it’s all too clear that Christmas is a distant memory and Easter a dream too far. Take a moment to look, really look, at your cherished loved one sitting next to you and ask yourself … do we need to slow down, renew our flame and let cupid do his glorious work? Answer: Of course we do! But where could we go …

Like beauty, the ideal setting for romance is truly in the eye of the beholder. That sort of thinking, however, is not going to get you and your loved one up in a place of beauty, peace and seclusion any time soon. What you need is a gentle prod in the right direction, so yours truly is going to lay it out for you … head to the beach! The beach is a truly great place for romance this time of year. You can hold each other close in the waves, swoon in the sand and kiss under the moon in a place of breathtaking natural wonder. Right here in Oz we are blessed with some of the finest beaches in the world, so we’ve picked three of the best beach resorts for you to get out there with your lover and do some serious hand holding!

Kewarra Beach Resort and Spa

We begin our exotic adventure within easy reach of Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas at the Kewarra Beach Resort and Spa. An exclusive tropical retreat with an amazing beachfront, Kewarra is perfectly located for couples to explore the Great Barrier Reef and the surrounding rainforests. Beautifully appointed individual deluxe bungalows and spacious suites are discretely situated throughout the 30 hectares of lush gardens, a tranquil environment that reflects the very essence of tropical Australia. The bungalows boast private balconies which are perfect to unwind surrounded by local birdlife, a million miles from the bustle of mass tourism.

Enjoy exquisite local seafood at the Lagoons restaurant, overlooking the resort’s grounds. Kewarra also offers guests a romantic gourmet dinner on the resort’s own private beach with just a table for two and the soft sound of the waves lapping the shore.

Kewarra Beach Resort is perfectly located for exploring the Great Barrier Reef and safaris into the World Heritage sites of Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation.

Lizard Island Resort, Great Barrier Reef

Staying in tropical North Queensland, the award winning Lizard Island Resort is right on the doorstep to the Great Barrier Reef. An arc of fringing reefs enclosing a balmy aquamarine lagoon, Lizard Island offers 24 creamy white beaches – the ultimate in secluded luxury. Serene and private accommodation provides elegant views of the Australian seascape. Choose between private villas, suites or the peak of romantic extravagance, the Pavilion: perched high above the Coral Sea and set on the point of Sunset Ridge, the Pavilion combines complete privacy with a spectacular 270-degree panorama of Anchor Bay, Osprey Island and Sunset Beach.

Simple and relaxed, Ospreys Restaurant is the idyllic setting to take full advantage of the views along the seascape for a special dining experience on Lizard Island. For the ultimate in seclusion and privacy, a seven-course beachside degustation dinner is high recommended.
Enjoy a glass bottom boat trip, snorkeling, diving or deep-sea game fishing excursions in the largest reef system in the world. To really slow things down, indulge in the on‐site spa offering aromatherapy, colour therapy, sound therapy and herbalism.

Sal Salis, Ningaloo Reef

Finally, we are westward bound! Sal Salis, an exclusive safari camp hidden in the white sand dunes of Western Australia’s Cape Range National Park, offers nine spacious wilderness tents metres from the water’s edge. Sal Salis’ location is both isolated and stunning with pure sand meeting wild bush in a striking convergence of rugged and ancient environments.

Designed to blend with the surrounding dunes, Sal Salis’ nine spacious Wilderness Tents on raised platforms offer breathtaking views of the sea and the land, supremely comfortable beds and an environmentally friendly eco-ensuite bathroom. Somewhat rustic in its style but extremely comfortable, Sal Salis provides a unique and natural venue from which to take in this extraordinary spectacle of nature.

The chef at Sal Salis’ main lodge prepares contemporary cuisine comprised of local ingredients, served in the outdoor dining area with clear views of the Indian Ocean sunset. In the evenings, joining you for a spectacular sunset are kangaroos and wallaroos, which come in from the bush for their evening graze.

Guests can enjoy many unique nature activities, including sea kayaking, wildlife viewing, gorge walks, fishing, and star gazing.
