Hawthorn is Hooked, line and sinker

Pirates, seaman and fishes have a new home – Hooked at Hawthorn.

After an International DJ career spanning over a decade and known for introducing Acid House to Australia’s shores, Ray (DJ name: Sugar Ray) wanted a new direction with his life. With the DJing curtain drawn to a close, Ray had drawn on his childhood experiences at his parents’ fish and chippery in England.

Fish and chips are historically known for being oily, fatty and rightly delicious. After consuming a typical salty and battered ‘fish n chips’, there is always a slight but deep regret of just how many hours of exercise is required to burn off the meal.  Ray had a vision of providing a healthy spin to ‘fish n chip’ that retained the associated taste that we all know and love.

Hooked has successfully established itself in Fitzroy and Brunswick as the healthy fish and chippery with plenty of fresh flavours. It offers the right balance of healthy salads and mains (including a delicious and perfect panned fried snapper!), but also the option of well-crafted burgers and lightly battered fish.

Hooked is now taking its proud healthy fish and chips heritage to the east side of Melbourne, opening on Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn. Key highlights from the media launch was the exceptional range of  fish tacos which were the perfect way to start the meal – they were filling enough as an entree and aligned the taste buds for a truly seafood experience. There were a variety of burgers on offer; from seared tuna covered with sesame seeds to crumbed panko fillet. Both were outstanding, however, the construction of the tuna burger was an immediate hit.

You can’t say you’ve experienced Hooked unless you have tried their chips. Twice fried and hand cut, they can only be described as addictive – in a good way. The chips were beautifully matched with the various delicious house made sauces on offer (the Dill & Caper Tartare is a must!), elevating the experience and identity of what Hooked is all about – serving fantastic fish and chips.

Whether it’s a low key Tuesday night dinner or you want to share a good value meal with family or friends, Hooked has you covered in Hawthorne. It’s fish and chips without the regret and is undeniably delicious.  So cast your anchor in Hawthorne, for a seafood experience you will remember and enjoy.
